FIVE Twenty Five Turret Temples of Bengal


Sonamukhi(Bankura) Sridhar Temple is a 25 ratna temple, only in Bankura district built by Kanai Rudra, a member of weaver community, in 1845 A.D. Excellent terracotta plaques in all four sides & pillars being covered with plaques too.
It is also a 25 turret temple.which is built in 1766 A.D. on the wall of this temple many terracotta are ornamented. In front of the temple an Audience Hall is there.



This 25 turret temple was constructed by mother of Tilakchand of Burdwan Raj in 1751 - 52 A.D. It has an elongated chala type of verandah in front having 3 - arched entrances: furnished with terracotta plaques.
This 25 pinnacled temple was built by Bireshwar Mustafi in 1813 A.D. This temple is flanked by Two rows of Six Shiva temples. Two of them are Pancharatna & rest are Atchala type made it a Temple Complex. Although terracotta work is not so fine but all the three walla are decorated with different work.
